A happy new year to you
For many, the new year represents a chance to turn the page and get a fresh start in life. Maybe New year 2021 will be the year when you enjoy more, stress less or simply get better at taking care of yourself?
New Year's resolutions are often considered easier to make than to keep, but according to a Swedish study are de facto better than their reputation. The study followed more than a thousand people who made New Year's resolutions. It turned out that more than half, 55 percent, still stuck to their intentions a year later.
Promises such as quitting smoking or losing weight are said to have declined in popularity. Instead, the goals are more often about things like losing weight on plastic, living more ecologically and "becoming a better person".
That all New Year's resolutions and resolutions should be chosen with the heart speaks for itself. Feel what is really important to you and makes you feel good.
Regardless of the time of year, the probability of succeeding with a lifestyle change or other adjustment is greater if you have thought the matter through carefully before and planned and prepared well. Among other things, it pays to be concrete. Going in for "living healthier" is often too vague, while wordings such as "exercising three times a week" or "flossing daily" can be easier to absorb.
Another tip is to be realistic. Over-ambitious goals can lead to fatigue quickly and giving up prematurely. Large goals can with advantage be broken up into smaller, measurable sub-goals which, in addition to being steps in the desired direction, also have a stimulating and motivating effect.
Positive goals increase your chances of succeeding with whatever you set out to do. In other words: formulate the promise in the form of things you want to do more of, not things you should stop with. Maybe you should meet your friends and relatives more often, sleep more or do more of things that give you joy? Getting better at saying no can also be healthy. Putting yourself first is not something you need to be ashamed of or mess with. If you lack energy and energy, you also have nothing to give someone else. In other words, it is important to charge the famous batteries.
Starting a new hobby can be a great way to relax and clear the brain, while it can also have a stimulating and creative boost. Baking, bowling, rock climbing, bridge - when it comes to hobbies, the options are almost endless and are available for all types of wallets and personalities. There are hobbies that are practiced on their own, in privacy, while other hobbies are great opportunities to meet new people and expand their network of contacts.
Changes take time and it is important to be patient. The establishment of a new habit is estimated to require an average of 66 days and you must be prepared for setbacks along the way. The race is still not run just because the sofa that one time attracted more than the running track or the piece of cake tasted better than broccoli. Learn from what happened and get back in the saddle. It is the whole that matters. Find the balance and be kind to yourself.
